Micah is on our shortlist of names for our son.
Do you think its going to be more popular as a girl's name soon?
Do you think its a name that will age well for a young man / adult?
Does it strike you as overly religious?
Will people call him Mike?
Which do you like better, Malcolm or Micah?
Re: Micah?
I've never heard Micah as a girl's name.
I think it will age well. I know two Micah's--one is 2 and the other is in his 20's. The name suits both of them.
It is a religious name...I'm not sure what "overly-religious" means. It's certainly not a name like James, Matthew, John or Paul---there's no forgetting that Micah is a Bible name as there is with the others I mentioned.
I think shortening Micah to Mike is pretty lazy...it's one extra syllable. Neither of the Micah's I know go by Mike.
I like Micah much better than Malcolm.
I like it (for a boy) and hope that it doesn't turn into a girls' name. I don't think it is going to become exclusively feminine anytime soon. Here are some recent SSA numbers for babies named Micah ? definitely still strongly masculine:
1990: 1,176 boys, 212 girls
2000: 1,975 boys, 391 girls
2005: 2,703 boys, 295 girls
2009: 3,490 boys, 341 girls

I like the name! I know 2 girls named micah
one is in her early 40's spells it that way
the other is young and she spells it Myka.
Cautiously expecting our second little petri dish baby - stick, Baby, stick!
Micah is a somewhat popular name where I live for boys. (I know one girl named Myka, but I associate it as a boy name).
I know young boys and adults named Micah, and it suits them all well.
It doesn't strike me as overly religious.
None of the Micahs I know go by Mike.
I prefer Micah over Malcolm, but I like both names. (I actually know brothers with these names!)
I have never heard Micah for a boy, it would be a horrible girl's name IMO.
Yes, the only Micahl I know is 30, and it fits him great!
No, but I am not a super religious person so my mind does not go thee
No, my friend Micah has never had that problem, people call him Micahl.
Micah by a long shot, I do not like Malcolm at all! If you are looking for alternatives, I love Malachi.
I've known quite a few MALE Michahs. Not a single female by that name.
Do you think its going to be more popular as a girl's name soon? No.
Do you think its a name that will age well for a young man / adult? Maybe not. My hubby heard it on Dirty Jobs the other day and he said, "What kind of stupid name is that?"
Does it strike you as overly religious? I actually think of the mineral.
Will people call him Mike? I doubt it. Unless he hates his name and wants people to call him Mike.
Which do you like better, Malcolm or Micah? Malcolm.

My two year old nephew is Micah. I never even thought of it as a girls name, it is a biblical name but so is John, Matthew and James. We don't call my nephew Mike. I like Micah over Malcom.
