Babies: 3 - 6 Months

do you still swaddle?

Does anyone here still swaddle? Brynn is now 3 months. We use the Summer Kiddapotomus swaddler. She is still using the 7-14 lb small one, but could totally use a size large. She only uses it for bedtime. I tried to "wean" her from it, to make bedtime easier and so she could wear normal PJ's/sleepers to bed instead of just a onesie and the swaddler, but it was awful. She wouldnt sleep for more than 15 minutes at a time. It doesnt help that she is still going through her 3 month growth spurt.

So, who is swaddling, and how old is LO?

Re: do you still swaddle?

  • 4 months next week and we one-arm swaddle.  Today I put her down for a nap with both arms out and the wings done around her torso and she still slept 1.5 hours, so this upcoming week we're going to try that.  When the one-arm worked so well a month ago we tried just a sleepsack the next night and it was a big old fail.

  • We have just stopped this week. We only have because DD is rolling like CRAZY now! She is going through a growth spurt too, so sleeping has not been as good here.

We did not wrap her arms though.  She was in a sleep positioner too and I also took that away with the swaddle blanket.

  • We just stopped because DS was rolling onto his tummy.  We slowly transitioned, first one arm out for about 4 days and then the other.  We have been two arms out for 2 days now and it's going well.  I hope it continues to go well.
  • Still swaddling, just for night.  He's in the large size.  He also just started rolling with any sort of regularity in the past few days, so we'll re-evaluate the swaddling soon.  He sleeps well at night & I'm afraid of that changing once we de-swaddle.

That is what is happening to us. DD is a rolling fool, so last week we decided that we needed to de-swaddle her. She went from sleeping anywhere between 5 and 10 hours straight to getting up every 2-3 hours. It sucks! I am tempted to start swaddling her again so I can get some straight sleep, but I am just too concerned she might roll over. I just hope it starts getting better.

  • Still swaddling here, and DD is a little over 3.5 months.  We only swaddle at night, never for daytime naps.  We managed to wean her out of the Miracle Blanket and into a Halo swaddle sleep sack.  That took about a week of terrible sleep (which coincided what I think was a growth spurt), but she's doing great in it now.  I'm planning to try the one-arm swaddle at some point later...our next task (next weekend) is to transition her to her crib in her nursery, so I want to get her used to sleeping there before introducing something else.  DD doesn't roll...either tummy to back or back to tummy.

  • yes.  DD will be 14 wks tomorrow.

    Edit: no rolling yet.

    DD1 born 5/24/10.

    Missed M/C at 14 wks Feb 2012.

    DD2 born 5/14/13.

    Missed M/C at 9 wks July 2015.

    Expecting someone new 4/17/17.
  • We are still swaddling. The times that I have allowed him to sleep without a swaddle, he keeps waking himself up when he flails his hands. The only time he sleeps without one is if he falls asleep in the car seat. DS is 4 months old.

  • We still swaddle but we put our swaddle sacks away and just use muslin swaddle blankets now. The JJ Cole ones, or the Aiden and Anais ones work like magic every time. DD will stop being swaddled when she starts rolling though.

  • My LO was wrapped up tight in Halo Swaddles until he was breaking loose at around 4 months.  Then we switched him to Halo sleepsacks instead.  Is your LO rolling yet?  Or breaking loose?  If so, then it's time to stop swaddling, otherwise go ahead and continue swaddling until then.
