This winter I'm going to have to wear my 2yo so that I can take my 5yo to school on the bus/subway. At this point he's heavy enough that I much prefer to wear him on my back (in my Ergo). How do you do it? I have always had trouble getting the Ergo on over a winter coat.
I absolutely ADORE my Kindercoat. Seriously the best money I spent last winter. I live in the Pacific Northwest where it's often cold and damp, and I actually ended up using just the fleece liner most of the time, although the outer shell was really nice for truly frigid days (which we didn't really have--it was a mild winter last year). The other thing I really liked was Baby Legs--they were great for covering that gap between pants and socks for DD. As a plus, I put them on over the tops of her socks and it kept her from pulling her socks off (although she finally figured it out the other day... sigh.)
Definitely check out a babywearing coat - the Kindercoat is easiest to find although the Mamajacket is also around. There's also the peekaru vest for cool but not cold days.
The babywearing coat is great because you can take it off once you are inside (like on the subway) but can leave him on your back!
