I've had several moms IRL tell me that walkers (the kind the baby sits in and walks around in) are life savers. They also tell me that with DD being as active as she is and trying to walk already (not enough strength yet of course) that I'll want one by the time she's 5months instead of 6 (they bet).
I'm wondering if you are using one or if you plan to. Why and why not? If so, what do you recommend? Does Baby Bargains say anything about good/bad brands? (<--I lent mine to a pregnant friend). Oh, and yes, I know how to use it safely and we live in a ranch style house so no stairs for her to fall down plus the "unsafe" room is already gated off because of the dog lol
Thanks!
Re: walkers??
(Just in case you don't know) If you upload it to tinypic.com and edit it... you can resize it to however you want it to look on here... there's a little bar you just drag bigger or smaller
I'll go try it...I'm still using photobucket lol. btw: do you think Sophie is worth the money? DD is teething but has a tiny mouth so most teethers are hard for her to get in there and chew on lol
I just got the jumparoo and she LOVES it! She desperately wants to move too though :-/
Sophie is worth the money!
I never thought to freeze a paci! you wet it and put it in the freezer? I tried freezing the end of a baby washcloth, but it gets warm so fast!
You can also freeze tupperware lids-they work great because they have a lip for them to chew on/put their gums in, and they come in all different sizes!
If you squeeze the paci while it's submerged, it will fill with water (I noticed that when I boiled them). So, I fill it with water and then freeze it. The water doesn't last long because it melts so fast.. but if she's crying because she's in pain from teething -- it works sooooo quickly!! I keep a few frozen at all times
so does she end up sucking and swallowing the water?
I don't know. If you fill a paci with water and the squeeze it out, it all comes out the front (near the little handle thing). And it does drip out of it as it melts. She might end up swallowing a little, but if so it would be a tiny amount.
The AAP is trying to get the sale of walkers banned in the U.S.
I usually do not follow all the hype about how dangerous everything is, but walkers truly are. They give your infant access to things they normally would not be able to reach at this age like lamp cords, tablecloths, and items on coffee and end tables. All it takes is a split second to pull something heavy down onto their head.
Plus, there is always that risk of someone leaving a stairway gate or door open by accident and the baby falling down the stairs in the walker (which actually happened to my mother when she was an infant and she got very badly hurt!)
I was against the use of one when my son was an infant, but after having been through his early toddler stage and seeing how easy it is for a baby to get hurt once they are mobile, I am even more against them.
There is no need for it. An exersaucer or jumperoo provide the same kind of stimulation for an active baby.
all of this.
We have let her sit in a walker at someone elses' house for a few minutes. Really, I don't get how its any "better" for standing and such compared to an exersaucer. So thats what we have.
This is what I was told by our pedi. I asked about them, only because my mom is sooo desperate to get one for DS and I was hesitant. Our pedi is very much against them.
All of this too. He uses the exersaucer at DC and has a jumperoo at home. We use the doorway jumper too - which he "tries" to walk in on his own. LO loves to stand with help and enjoys his jumperoo - and I know he isn't mobile any early than he needs to be!
yeah - lol i think youd have to spend a lot of time in it for that. neither of my kids were toe walkers (and both fully walking at 10.5 mo)
I was saying they are the same in terms of standing. People were stating they got a walker because their LO likes to stand. Thats all. I realize they have differences.
you really thought about something like that when you were in high school?
it wasn't you i dont think? but i understand what youre saying.
oh oops. I didn't realize someone else had said it too
Baby Bargains only says how dangerous they are and won't recommend any brands. They call them "death traps on wheels."
