NBR: Anyone have Kindle or Nook?

I am looking for anyone who has the Amazon Kindle or the Barnes and Noble Nook. I am looking at getting my mom one for Christmas and I can't decide if one is better than the other or if they are the same so it doesn't matter.  Please tell me about yours

Re: NBR: Anyone have Kindle or Nook?

  • I love my kindle. No complaints. I don't know enough about the Nook to say if its better or not. Part of it will be if she prefers to go through Barnes &Noble to get books, or amazon. I prefer amazon because I always seem to get gift cards for it.

  • OH also check with her local library. many libraries have a deal set up with one of the ereaders that allows you to check out ebooks for free.
  • I have the Kindle.  I just got it and really started using it.  I like that I can download from it to get books.  I do not know much about the Nook, however I have heard that BN saves the books that have been downloaded and then it doesn't have to be bought again.  I have not figured out yet if Amazon does it or what to do once the Kindle is getting full.

  • I have a Nook and I love it. You can get many classics for free through Barnes and Noble, check out library books an even lend books to other Nook users.

  • I have a Nook and I love it. It is very easy to use. I can't comment on the Kindle because I've never tried one. Barnes & Noble Classics are available for cheap or for free. Also, you can take your Nook into the store and read anything you want for free. B&N will archive the books that you have read so that if the Nook crashes or something you do not need to repurchase anything. I, also, think the Nook has a much sleeker design.

yep. Amazon saves them. You can also download them from amazon to your hardrive if you want.

  • THanks ladies!  My mom borrows books a lot from our library so I will have to see if they work with Amazon or B&N.
  • I also have the second generation Kindle and I love it!

  • I have the Nook. I absolutely love it.  Already I have over 90 books on it and haven't had to purchase a single one! (they are mostly classics but some are books that are on New York Times Bestsellers list) I have also borrowed from my local library and read them on the nook. It's very cool. You don't ever have to leave the house to get a book to read.  I would highly recommend it. (I think the nook is prettier than the kindle too, but thats just personal preference.)

  • I have both Embarrassed.  To be fair... DH took the Kindle and bought me a Nook.

I prefer the Nook, to be honest.  I like that it's got a touch pad- you can use it to "flip" the page, which is cool!  I also love that you can borrow and lend books- I don't know if it's changed, but you couldn't do that with the Kindle.

  • Thanks Irish for that information!  Its great to know because that was one of my concerns.  Are we able to share books with the Kindle to others who have a Kindle?
