Yes, another cereal question...

Morning ladies!  So we started giving DS rice cereal 2 weeks ago (per pedi, he is 19 lbs and eating 40+ oz formula a day!) He is def. ready to eat cereal, loves it, opens mouth, and doing very well at eating it.  However, it seems that maybe his tummy is hurting b/c he usually sleeps 10+ hours a night, well any night we give him cereal he wakes up.

The pedi said to give it to him in the am and at night, but it's messing up his sleep.  Should I just give it to him once a day, or just morning and lunch maybe?  What have you all tried that has worked?

We did try oatmeal in place of rice for 2 days but he threw up all day long and that really seemed to upset his tummy.

TIA for any tips you might have!

Re: Yes, another cereal question...

  • You can try that, we give DD rice cereal at her 3pm and 9pm feedings and give her veggies at her 12pm and 6pm feedings.  I do have to say though that your DS might be hitting that 4month wakeful period.  DD started that right around his age and I was really confused because she went from sleeping through the night to waking up and either talking/playing or getting upset because she needed her paci.  It may just be coincidence, but if you want to switch you could do cereal at his feeding right before his last bottle of the night.
