Babies: 3 - 6 Months

i'm not pregnant, but if i was....

if you are breastfeeding and get pregnant, does your milk dry up? if so, how soon? anybody know? just curious...we are thinking of maybe trying when DS is 9 months old, but we are only using spermicide for BC until then, so i guess it's a possibility that it would happen earlier....anyway, thanks for satisfying my curiosity if you can :).

  • no, i'd never heard of it...thanks :). i guess i always thought it dried up because my mom had my two older sibling 13 months apart and always said that was why she didn't nurse my oldest brother for very long, because she got pregnant with my sister. i guess it was other factors for her :).
  • your milk can taste different when you are pregnant I guess...my mom said my sister started fussing and refusing her and that was one fo her early signs that she was actually pregnant.  Her milk didn't dry up though...but my sister weaned herself basically...

Actually, it could happen, since every woman's hormonal balance is different, and lactation is based (largely) on the production of hormones (as well as supply and demand).

OP, a friend of mine got pregnant while her DC was 6 months old and she dried up several months later.
