Pregnant after a Loss

yolk sac vs placenta

Ok so when does the yolk sac stop feeding/nourishing the baby and when does the placenta fully form? I've read online the placenta forms b/t 10-12 weeks....I just had my u/s at 10 weeks and the yolk sac was still there but small - then I asked "is the placenta there? is it formed?" and the u/s tech said "no it's not formed yet....but it looks like it will be on the back side of the uterus b/c that is thickening". I just wanna make sure my baby has a placenta when the yolk sac dissapears! LOL

Re: yolk sac vs placenta

  • 12 weeks.  You heard exactly what I did at 9.5 weeks.  I was surprised to see the yolk sac still there, too.

  • At my first NT scan at 12 weeks it was still there. The next week, it was gone.
