Babies: 3 - 6 Months

if you are supplementing...

I am not pumping as much as LO eats while I am at work so I want to start mixing BM and formula, how should I bring this to daycare? I want to waste as little as possible and she doesn't always eat the last bottle at daycare. should I just have the BM in the bottle and daycare can add the water and formula? (formula can't be put back in the fridge once warmed and only lasts 24 hours once made).LO eats just fine when breastfed, I just cant get enough when I pump. My daycare lady is wonderful and would do anything for us, I just want to make it as easy as possible! I tried the mixed bottle last night 2x and she took it just fine. any other tips would be appreciated as well! thanks ladies!

Re: if you are supplementing...

  • I bring what I pumped the day before - and she feeds that to LO first (about 14oz). If he needs another bottle after that - she will mix him a formula bottle. Now that he has cereal and a veggie for lunch - he only wants the formula bottle maybe once a week. Is it possible that they can feed LO the BM first - then give her the formula if needed? This has worked great with us. Before when I was only able to send 10oz - he took 1 or 2 formula bottles in the afternoon. I hate wasting BM when I can't pump enough as it is so I love that he gets the BM first.

  • that sounds like a good idea! the doctor also recommended that, he gave me a few options.
  • Instead of nursing Luke before bed I give him a bottle of formula.  Then I pump instead and have enough for daycare the next day.  Thats an option too...
