We have the Avent microwave sterilizer. It works well I think. We don't use it too much. We use it when we first buy everything but our pediatrician said it's not necessary to sterilize unless you have well water or live in an area with troubled water supply otherwise soap and water is fine. But all pedi's seem to say different things. You can also just do everything in the dishwasher once a day if you like.
We have the Avent bottle steamer too. I've never even opened it. I typically sterilize everything in the dishwasher or in a pot of boiling water. I don't bottle feed, so I don't have much to sterilize. If I did, then maybe I'd use the sterilizer.
I just sterilized everything twice, just to be sure, in boiling water on the stove top, then hand washed everything. I dont know if there is a need to sterilize again, just hand washing or dishwasher should do!
