Babies: 3 - 6 Months

does bumbo cause any motor problems?

I had read on here that bumbo is not recommended for use by therapists because it causes some kind of problems. I did not pay attention because I did not plan on buying one.

However, DD has been diagnosed with a slightly flat head on one side and she hates tummy time. I want to buy a bumbo in hopes that she may like it better.

Does anyone know what i am talking about?

thanks

Re: does bumbo cause any motor problems?

  • I've never heard of the bumbo causing motor problems. My LO has used the bumbo daily since he was 2.5 months old and he loves it.

At 4.5 months, he can sit for 1-2 minutes at a time unassisted, roll in all directions, and scoot on his tummy or back. We attribute at least the sitting skills to using the bumbo.

  • I haven't heard of the bumbo causing any problems, but if you're interested, babywearing helps them develop their core muscles and cuts down on the need for tummy time.

  • The only thing I've heard about the bumbo is to not let them sit propped up (using bumbo, boppy, whatever...) for more than 15ish minutes at a time, until they can actually sit on their own.

  • I never had issues with the bumbo. We used it until my DS started sitting up on his own at 4 months. He's hit all his milestones early.

As a PP mentioned, I wouldnt use it for more than 15 minutes at a time.
