I have liked the name since I was pregnant with DS but was afraid to use it because I don't like the nickname Andy. The name (as a first name) keeps growing on me and I would like to consider it again. Do you think it is possible to name a kid Anderson and not have it shortened to Andy?

most people i grew up with with longer names [3+ syllables] who didn't like nicknames never had a problem. your child might, however, like the nickname andy and there's not really much you can do about that.
he could also be shy and not feel comfortable saying "my name isn't andy, it's anderson," so that is something you may keep that in mind.
What about Anders if you ever need to shorten it instead of Andy?
Gender: Masculine
Usage: Scandinavian
Ditto with the name growing on me, I'm 99% sure of using it (as a middle name in my case).
I think you can get away with nn him Ace? Not sure if you're into that, but I think it's kinda cool for a kid.
My son's name is Anderson and noone has shortened it yet to Andy. He is 2 and we picked a middle name that begins with a J so if in the future if he would like a nickname we would like to go with AJ. My husbands name is Andrew shortened to Andy so I really don't want two Andy's.
The only problem with the name is that my son still cannot pronounce it. He has difficulty with all the syllables! It is cute though how he says it.
I agree!
