I just purchased the Angelcare Deluxe monitor. We have been bedsharing with DD, (never intended to but DD has AR and would not sleep anywhere but in our arms and she is too heavy for me now and DH's arms are going numb every night) we need to get her sleeping on her own and in her crib. Anyway, I opened the box and it reads that you need to place the monitor on a board under the mattress. Am I understanding that right? There is nothing to the crib itself other than the spring. Do I need to send DH to Lowe's to get a board to place between the spring and mattress?
Last, any tips would be GREATLY appreciated on using this product. We also have a Summer Infant video monitor, I want to be super cautious because DD's nursery is on the other side of the house. We have had ZERO sleep without DD attached to one of us 24/7 (usually me since I'm a SAHM) and I need her to start napping and sleeping at night in her own space.
TIA!!!
Re: ? for those of you that have an Angelcare monitor..
Okay, I'll play around with it this weekend and try that. Thanks for the tip!
We got a plywood board - it was about $4 at Menard's (similar to Lowe's).
We had tons of false alarms, so we have it set close to the highest sensitivity - otherwise the stupid thing kept going off and scaring the crap out of us. LO likes to roll around a lot and sometimes she would scoot down to the bottom of her crib and that would often set it off, so we had to keep upping the setting. Like pp said, I didn't want to set it too high b/c it will pick things up other than LO, but we couldn't handle the false alarms.
I check the sensitivity level about every other night. I turn on the fan and anything else that would be moving air through the room (air conditioner etc), turn the monitor on and step away from the crib. I know I have to adjust the sensitivity if it picks up the air currents.
I love our monitor. We did have a few nights of Jack wiggling off the sensor and getting false alarms which makes for a crazy night, but we have had it go off because he stopped breathing. Usually the first beep going off is enough to startle him and he is fine by the time I make it to the nursery. Good luck with your monitor. It is honestly the one thing I strongly recommend to new moms.
