I know it could be several things BUT I just want to ask...
After DS' 4 month appointment we started rice cereal because the pediatrician wanted him to start eating solids and relying less on the bottle since his reflux is pretty severe. He had been getting rice cereal in his bottles for a long time so we just did the rice on the spoon for 3 days before switching to oatmeal because we already knew he could handle the rice.
Well, after we started the oatmeal, we noticed a big increase in his spit up, lots of fussiness, refusal to eat, loose BM's, a little rash around his anus, and he even lost weight (5 oz) in the week between his 4 month appointment and the appointment I took him to to get him checked out because of these bizarre symptoms.
Since the change in behavior coincided with a change in cereals we went back to rice. We've been back on rice for two days now and he's already happier, his BM's are more solid, his rash is subsiding, and he's been eating better. He goes for a weight check on Tuesday.
I know that his behavior could have been form several things (teething, rotavirus vaccine reaction, reflux flare up etc.) but I am a little curious about the oatmeal, since the symptoms seem to have come and gone along with the oatmeal cereal. I know I need to give oatmeal another shot to be sure but I'm nervous because I don't want to make him feel yucky again.
Anyone else's LO have issues with oatmeal? What kinds of things did you notice about their behavior/health while on and off of oatmeal?
Thanks!!

Re: Anyone Else's Baby Have Problems With Oatmeal?
Glad your lo is feeling better since you stopped the oatmeal....We tried oatmeal on two diff. occasions and both times it really upset Ds's tummy. He didn't react as severely as your LO but threw up alot on the two days we did oatmeal. So he is only on rice right now.
Good luck, I wish I could offer advice, but just wanted to let you know that DS didn't do well with oatmeal also.... I had posted something about it last week and someone responded about there maybe being wheat in the oatmeal and that could be what was causing the issue. I noticed my oatmeal's first ingredient was wheat.
Maybe try another oatmeal or try again in a few days and see if the same thing happens? But all those symptoms sound like it was a reaction to the oatmeal IMO.
