My friend had her baby last Sunday at 26 weeks, 3 days. She had gone into pre-term labour because of an infection. Though they were able to stop the labour they eventually had to induce her because the infection got worse.
Baby was 2 lb 2 oz at birth and is obviously in the NICU and will be there for quite a while. This couple also has a 2 year old son.
I live 2 hours away and was wondering what I could do to help them?
We have been calling and sending supportive emails. I also sent the mother a care package of things she could read/do when she is pumping or sitting by the incubator.
What else can I do? What has been helpful for you?
Re: How can I help? (26 wk baby)
My baby was born at 26w2d and 2 lb 3 oz He as in the NICU a long time (117 days) but FWIW he's doing *really* great now. T&P to your friend's baby!
It sounds like you're doing a really great job of being supportive so far. Anything that can help pass time (cross words, preemie journal, magazine) or help them accomplish daily things (Gift cards to go out to eat with her husband on a date once in a while, etc) are great.
At this point I would avoid sending her clothing. They can't wear them for a long time and it would have frustrated me.
Other than than, lots of prayers...
