One of my nights at childbirthing class was dedicated to bfing and it was really informative. She taught us different holds and all about colostrum and the different stages of milk and let down.
However, since it was a part of the class I took, and it was great, I don't think I'd pay for a separate class altogether. There's so much information out there, and honestly quite a few women here that can help you out. As well as, hopefully, your hospitals lactation consultant!
I took one through the birth center's classes. Cee can probably give you information for Kristin Gartner. I like to know things ahead of time so while I could not have practiced, I felt like I had a good understanding beforehand.
I really liked the books Breastfeeding Made Simple and So That's What They're For. I used both as references in the beginning but read them ahead of time.
I can't say enough about Kristin Gartner (sp?). She came recommended to me through so many people.
I would also recommend the LC at OP hospital. I never really had much luck with the LC staff at Baptist. I read many books and made sure to stay for the segment on in at the birthing class but none of it really clicked in. It was great information but meeting with an LC after made all the difference in the world. LO also had reflux which was a real experience. I have also known people do have a doula who comes after birth who works with you also.

Oh yes! The LC at OPMC is wonderful!! She is my best friends mom and I love her. She is the one who finally got B and I back on track.
I also saw Kristin Gartner and she was a bye help in the office, but I did have a pretty hard time getting ahold of her after our appointment.
My doula was a big help!

Crazy! I seriously can't say enough wonderful things about her. I would have given up on nursing all together if it wasn't for her. When I met with her I had really given up and thought I would just give it one more try and meet with her. I went not expecting very much and left so glad I went.

That's supposed to say "she was a big help".. I was posting from my iPhone!
Yay! I hope you love her! When I found out I was pregnant this last time, one of the first things Adam asked me was if she was back from maternity leave yet She is sooo wonderful!
you will LOVE Heather!!! Jeremy would feel the same as Adam if we were to have another.
Heather and Kristen G. really made the difference with me nursing. Nathan would not latch for almost 2 weeks and Heather was here at the house showing me how to pump within 2 days. She was such a blessing. Kristen can be tough to get a hold of sometimes but she really came through for us. I know without her we would not have made it a month let alone 2 years. I should bake them a cake or something
I took the class at Baptist South. I can say that a 2 1/2 hour class is not enough. I wish I would have read more books. After the baby is here, you won't have time to read or you will be to tired. I used the lactation consultants at Baptist South. They were great but I wish I only worked with one. They all had different opinions and different ideas. Everytime I called I would get someone different and she would have a new suggestion. I had serious problems but by the time I found someone there who pin pointed the issue it was too late and my milk supply was far too low. It sounds like you have been given a great recommendation for a LC. I would talk to them before and try to only talk to them after. Good luck!!
