How much do you pay for childcare using a SAHM?

Just wonering if any of you use SAHM for childcare and what do you pay them a week?

Do you pay less if you cannot claim the child tax credit?

Do you pay for Holidays and or sick days?

How many children are in the SAHM care that you use?

What kinds of things do you look for in a good SAHM who cares for other people's children?

Thanks in advanced:)

Re: How much do you pay for childcare using a SAHM?

  • I have a few friends that do it at their homes. They usually get paid $50/wk for fulltime. It is nice becuase she is able to bring the kids to our playdates, so, they are able to get out and have lots of fun experiences. Plus they get used to being around other kids. The ladies that I know only watch their kids and 1 or two other children (from the same family). They get paid for sick days, but not holidays..they just work that out as they go.

You can't use the child tax credit unless it is a certified home care facility.

I would have a very frank conversation with the person about your care expectations and the types of activities they will do with the kids. See how they react. Will they provide meals, what are you expected to provide? (diapers, wipes, ect...) Will they do sick care or extended day care if needed...at what price. How often do they vacation or need days off from caring for your child? How do they discipline...and watch how well behaved are their kids? Then, once you do hire someone, just keep and eye on you child and make sure they are receiving the care expected. Show up early for pickup a few time or spur of the moment to check out the house...toys everywhere is fine with kids playing, but is the place clean?

  • $50/week fulltime??  Did you mean $150/week fulltime??  I've never heard of such a thing as $50/week.  I wouldn't do it for less than a $100/week and I wouldn't take less than $150/week for a baby!
