We use BG 4.0 and Happy Heinys for DS and we love them! I am planning on making my ownhemp inserts for extra overnight protection (making rather than buying to save $$ as we are broke with a capital B!). I measured the newborn insert (5.5 x 11) and the regular insert (5.5 x 15 when large size). I have 2 different thoughts on making the inserts...
1-making the inserts 5x11 to fit the smallest setting, so we can use them when we (eventually) have baby #2. Do you think this would be ok when we use the diapers on the largest size? It wouldn't extend all the way up the back but I figure DS needs most protection in the front anyway.
2-making them in a design similar to AFFF...2 layers 5" wide and really long, but I'm having trouble figuring out exactly how long to make them. If I make them 30" long it would give 6 layers of hemp at the smallest size but only 4 layers on the largest size. I'm debating if the 4 layers is enough.
Either way would make the same # of inserts per yard. Any thoughts? Has anyone made their own inserts? How did it work out? TIA!!
