MoMs that use Dr. Browns

Am I missing something here?  We purchased 2 dishwasher baskets to try to keep up with all the bottles we are going to be using but I am realizing (duh) that I am still only going to be able to wash 6 bottles in the dishwasher at a time.  That is only 3 feedings worth which means that I am probably going to have to be running the dishwasher constantly.  My question is, how are you all washing your bottles?  Is there some other, more efficient way that I don't know about.  BTW, I do not want to hand-wash them because of all the parts.  I should also mention that the micro-steam sterilizer does not fit in our microwave.

Re: MoMs that use Dr. Browns

  • We keep a tub of hot soapy water in the sink, and dump the bottle parts in there after the feeding. Let sit for a few minutes, then rinse. In other words, we hand wash during each feeding. I find that, since we don't let the bottles sit, nothing gets dried on, and they're easy to clean / don't require scrubbing.

Works fine. At night when we're upstairs we fill the bathroom sink with the hot soapy water. I wash my pump parts in this same way.

I also sterilize the whole lot once a week or so.

  • After running the dishwasher every day for 2 weeks I started handwashing. Once a week I ran everything through even if it was just handwashed.  It's a lot of friggin bottles.  But it does get better when they start drinking more and using less bottles.

Washing with hot soapy water is ok.  you get over the everthing has to be sterlilized phase pretty quick.

Don't they sell a plug in sterilizer?

  • I am not much help since we dont use our dishwasher...We handwash...you get use to it.  Not that bad.  I agree with the pp about rinsing after feeding...much easier to clean.
  • We use the munchkin brand dishwasher baskets and not the Dr. Brown's basket. We just threw all the parts into the basket, tubes into the silverware tray, and the bottles all up on top. We could wash about 12 bottles using 2 baskets.

  • We had 6 baskets in rotation at one point.

  • We use Playtex Vent Air and Dr. Browns. We have enough to get us though a day then run the dishwasher every night. Now that they are getting older and don't take as many feedings we can make it a little longer. I personally find the Vent Air to be better and they are a little cheaper.

  • We washed ours by hand.  Each baby had 4 bottles and I was really bad about washing them after each use.  I would just rinse them and leave them in the sink until I had 8 bottles to wash.

The day we weaned them from the bottles was one of the happiest days of my life!  I hated washing all those parts!

I will say that the sterilizer was my most favorite baby product!

Yes, this is what I was thinking was going to happen.

    Basically this.

  • Invest in the Steam Sterilizer that plugs into the wall....you can sterilize 6 bottles at a time and it only takes 10 minutes....huge lifesaver & and you can throw ALL of the parts in the sterizlier too...we got the first years steam sterilizer i think it was $50.00 but totally worth it!!!!!

Hudson and Landry are on a 4 hour schedule so, I use 12 bottles in a 24 hour period.  however, I have sippy cups for my toddler as well.  I started my washer for the third time today but, I wouldn't change bottles for anything.

  • We did a combo, some hand washing, some dishwasher.  The hand washing was just so much easier for us since the bottles took up so much space in the dishwasher.  We just rinsed them after every feeding and then in the evening filled the sink with super hot water and soap and let everything soak for a bit.  We had only 2 dishwasher baksets so sometimes we put those 6 in the dishwasher and then hand washed the rest.  You get used to the hand washing, it isn't so bad.

Exactly this.  No problems for us at all and it works great, completely easy.  We run it once a day, usually at night then prepare our bottles of water after so all we have to do when ready to feed is dump the powder in.
