Pre-School and Daycare

hey britt! ~ s/o baking...

I am planning on making ds's cake for his bday... it's just the four of us, but I'm gonna try a racecar cake... I found instructions to make a racecar out of gumpaste that seems pretty simple.  https://www.cakejournal.com/archives/how-to-make-a-race-car-cake-topper

I'm thinking I should practice first.   my question, if I make it ahead, will it hold up or should I just try one and wait until the week of.  (bday is 2wks from Sat... I was thinking I'd give it a trial run next week).  I read that gumpaste will be good for a few weeks... but I'm not sure if the color will fade or if it will fall apart if I try to put it together early.  I bought the wilton icing color stuff.

Re: hey britt! ~ s/o baking...

  • the cake is just racecar themed, not in the shape of a racecar. I'm thinking of doing just a sheet cake and putting these on it... or a number 3 cake and putting these on it.  ???
  • Gumpaste decorations last FOREVER!.  I still have gumpaste flowers that I made while I was in school, and that was 6 years ago. lol So yes, it's totally fine to make in advance.  Just keep dry and at room temp. : )
