Potty Training

How do you deal with Day Care?

So we haven't done 3-day or anything, but Ivy is always interested in sitting on the potty, even though she's actually peed or pooped a couple times in it.
Well last night she wanted to go to bed without a pull-up, so we agreed, and she woke up dry after 12.5 hours!!! She then peed on the potty (yay!) and wanted to wear underwear. So we put her in a pair, which she promptly peed in, though she was near the potty.
My husband took her to day care (a small in-home DC run by a woman and her mom) in underwear and reported back that her sitter was NOT particularly pleased to have deal with it, if she wasn't fully trained. (We sent extra pairs and some clothes, in addition to the pull ups she already has there) She said a couple pee accidents were fine but if she pooped she was going to put her back in a pull up.
I'm shocked that she's not being supportive of this, because she normally is supportive of whatever we happen to be working on. I mean, I understand she can't spend her whole day dealing with my kid's underwear, but what if she still had accidents after she WAS trained?
Thoughts? We might try the 3-day, but I just don't know when since weekends are usually pretty hectic for us...

Re: How do you deal with Day Care?

  • I understand where your sitter is coming from.  Not to be snarky but if you don't have time to train your child, why is it the sitter's responsibility?  I mean, EVERYONE is busy, especially when you have kids, but you have to carve out the time and find it.  If its important to you, you'll make the time.  PT isn't hard but can be time consuming and when your watching other kids (whether a small daycare or not) it can be overload.  Its one thing to clean up accidents here and there after they have been PT, its one thing to teach them PT.

  • i hear you - and I should have clarified that I don't expect the sitter to follow the 3-day method by herself!  But my husband and I work full time during the week, and even with our weekends it's just not always realistic to dedicate 2, let alone, 3 days to being home all day with nothing to do but potty train. I agree it's important, we're just trying to find something that works for us and for her.

We did get a report that she did well today, even though she had a few accidents. The sitter didn't seem to mind too much, and said the other kids were really excited when she did successfully pee on the potty! So we'll play it by ear I guess..
