What to get a 5 year old boy for birthday?

I don't know any 5 year olds!   My son just got invited to this boy's birthday and we have to go - I would probably spend $20-40 on a present but I'd like to stay on the lower end of that.  Any suggestions?  The party is at a restaurant and the invitation had a rocket theme.

We got a nerf gun, per the mother's request.  Not what we wanted to get, but we were out of ideas.  We didn't really know the child.  She said tha is what he wanted.  He loved it.  It was probably one of his favorite gifts. 

What about craft type items?

My son is turning 5 in October and he is really into Toy Story right now.  I usually shop at the Disney Store and ALWAYS find great deals...with a rocketship theme - you can't go wrong with toys/pajamas/book anything with Buzz Lightyear.  Also, DS is into play-doh and puzzles.

What on earth is this?  LOL.  Having a boy, I've learned Thomas the train and construction equipment names.  I guess when ds hits five, I'll be learning Moto Frenzy stuff!

Ha ha.  It's a remote controlled motorcycle stunt-driver thing.  It pops wheelies, and can ride while in the wheelie position too.  Some come with a little "ring of fire" for them to jump through.  Others come with orange cones to create obstacle courses.  Boys.  I don't get it.

I don't get it either but I guess it's better than a boy playing with a princess doll set.  Not that there is anything wrong if they did- but my husband and probably many others, wouldn't understand.

This! My son LOVES Toy Story. You can find Toy Story toys from the $5 and up. Also, when you RSVP you can ask the Mom if there is anything specific that he has asked for or that she'd like you to get, or not to get.
