Pulled Stomach Muscle at 6 Weeks

Okay so I'm freaking out.  I'm 40 years old and 6 weeks pregnant.  Hubby and I have been trying for two years so YAY!  When I rolled out of bed this morning I pulled a muscle in my abdomen so I immediately laid back in bed.  I tried to get out again and pulled the muscle again. I laid back in bed and waited for it to subside then carefully got up.  I feel that I'm a high risk pregnancy because of my age so everything is at the top of my mind.  Is this normal?  It's NOT cramping, it's just a pulled muscle but I don't want to brush it off if it's something more serious.  I have my first Ultrasound next week.  Thanks ladies...

  • I would think if it is your stomach you are more than fine... Your uterus isn't up over your pelvic bone yet at 6 weeks...

If it is lower than your stomach it is probably just stretching. I am experiencing the same thing ocassionally.

  • I'm six weeks and I've been having tightness in my lower abdomen for a couple of days.  I feel like if I'm not careful turning over in bed I could pull something down there it's so tight.  I don't know much about this but it sounds like you're probably fine although you might keep an eye on it and call your Dr.'s office if you're concerned.

  • First of all, why would I joke about something I am genuinely concerned about?  I'm not experienced at this or claim to be.  Thanks to the other posters for their input to ease my mind.  Just want baby to be healthy and safe.

I agree! Many of us are first time moms here.

  • It sounds like Round Ligament Pain.  It's very common--usually in the second and third trimesters (with first babies).  If I make a sudden move to get up from sitting, or to turn, I experience the "pulled" sensation you are describing.

It's common to experience RL pain earlier in subsequent pregnancies--but I didn't expect it this early!!
