Baby Names

Girl Name Delimma

Trying to decide whether to incorporate my grandmothers name or not... My niece (1 year old) already has grandma's name as her middle name.  Does that mean I should steer clear of using it?  The name is Rosella- I don't want to use Rose but I'm not opposed to just using Ella or Rosella.  Some names I like are- Brooke, Lauren, Brynn, Avery, Natalie, Renee if that gives you an idea of the style of name I like.   Any input on using the same middle name or combos to use Rosella or Ella in the name?

Re: Girl Name Delimma

  • Generally, I think grandparents names are up for grabs for for more than one person, especially since it's a middle. I don't see anything wrong with it, especially since there's no claiming names.

THIS. Especially if you're using a variation.

  • Definitely agree with pp that Grandparents names are up for grabs.

My Mom, cousin and DD all have the name Jane after my grandmother.

  • Another agreed, my son has my grandfather's name as his mn, but I think it's just a matter of time before my cousins or siblings use it to, wouldn't bother me a bit, I would actually be more surprised if they didn't.

    This!

  • I have to say- I opened this thinking you were asking about a girl name "Delimma". I was going to tell you that people would mistake it for "dilemna".

    Haha!

  • Personally, I wouldn't do it since I'm someone who over-thinks the baby naming process and would prefer a completely original name. However, I have to add... my grandmother's name is also Rosella and 4 of the 10 granddaughters/great-granddaughters on that side of the family have either Rose or Rosella as their middle name. No one seemed to mind/thought it strange when the last 3 were named so I wouldn't worry about that- if she is someone you really want to honor, go for it, its your grandmother too.

  • I agree with previous posters. Grandparents' names are up for grabs. Lauren Rosella sounds lovely! :)
