I have had 2 ectopic pregnancies. The first was caught early and was given the methotrexate shot. The second was not caught early and I had to have the entire right fallopian tube removed. I was told that I am still at a risk for an ectopic in the other tube. My husband and I are trying to decide whether we should try again or not. I really do not want to go through with the whole ordeal of emergency surgery, etc. again.
Anyways, I am just curious how many of you have had a healthy pregnancy after an ectopic.
Thank you!
Re: Anyone with healthy pregnancy after ectopic?
First of all I am very sorry about your losses...
Yes. I lost a tube about 3 months before getting pregnant with my DS (who is 9 weeks old today)... It is possible!! Don't give up yet, the fat lady has NOT sung.

Hi there. I am sorry to hear all that you have gone through.
My last pg was ectopic and now I am 25 weeks! Mine was caught early and I had the methotrexate shot as well. I did not have any issues with my tubes. The daughter of a woman I used to work with had 4 m/c and lost a tube during her ectopic (she lost a baby and they didn't know their was a twin in her tubes until it burst later). She is now due in August and doing great
There is definitely hope, don't give up!!
Don't give up hope! I am very sorry for your losses. My first DS was born in 2008 - healthy, no pg issues whatsoever. We then got pg in January 2010 and it was ectopic on my left side. They gave me the metho shot, but it was apparently too far along as I ended up in the ER and had emergency surgery. I was able to save my left tube though, and it turns out that it is the one I ovulated through for the baby I am carrying now!
Besides being sicker than sick, we've seen our little bean twice, and got to see the hb last week, making me feel ALOT better about everything.
I know it's scary to think about doing it again and when you do get the BFP it's scary until you verify things are okay. Just take it slow and make sure you and DH are emotionally ready again and make sure your dr will monitor you right from the moment you get the two pink lines. I had very early and close monitoring with this baby and it makes all the difference! Good luck to you - I'll keep you and your hubby in my prayers!
I'm sorry for your loss! I had an ectopic in January and had emergency surgery. I was fortunate that the doctor was able to save my tube and I was able to get pregnant again 2 cycles after that.
Don't give up! I do wonder, did they do betas on you when you found out you were pregnant the 2nd time? If not, I would definitely ask for them the next time you get pregnant so they can make sure the levels are rising appropriately in order to avoid surgery again (though I have faith your next pregnancy will be a healthy one!)
Thanks for the hope everyone! I really appreciate it.
Yes, they did do betas on me with the second one. I even had an ultrasound at 7.5 weeks to make sure the pregnancy was in my uterus. At that ultrasound the dr said I think that is the yolk sac and fetal pole though you are very early. Everything I read said that I should see a distinctive baby and heartbeat. He just kept saying I was very early. My betas at that ultrasound were 10,000. He should have seen more than a blob that he thought was the "pregnancy". It obviously wasn't anything because it turned out to be ectopic. That is the most frustrating part, because I knew there was a risk this time and it was suppose to be caught early.
Have they performed a HSG to check the health of your remaining tube? I would advise checking into that if you haven't. Having one in each tube could point to a sign that there might be some scar tissue or something in the tube causing an issue.
I had an ectopic about 2 years ago that resulted in the loss of one tube. I also had a dr that didn't know what she was looking for at the time and have since switched to someone more proactive.
