We currently have a smaller bank for our checking account and while it's fine in general, it doesn't play nicely with programs like Quicken or Mint, which I use religiously. So I'm looking to change. I have it narrowed down to Chase, Wells Fargo and BofA. I had BofA in a past life and hated them...but I do currently have a checking account with them (it was business related and never used) so that transfer would be easy. Although I wouldn't mind setting up Chase if it's worth it. Experiences? Any others I'm missing?
Re: Checking accounts?
I've had BofA since '96 and (personally) haven't had any issues with them.
I really like their online banking tools, much better than Wells Fargo (we have accounts there too). ATMs are easy enough to find, and I dig the scanned deposit checks feature a ton (because I'm lazy and I prefer to be able to do this later).
I'm sorry you had a bad experience with them previously.
I can't speak to Chase accounts. No experience there.

DH and I have never had problems with BofA, and DH has a longstanding relationship with them for his personal checking/credit. I have heard a lot of people greatly dislike them though. I have my business accounts through BofA and like it just fine.
DH uses Chase banking for his businesses and likes them a lot as well.

We only have one locally and it's very inconvenient...and DH's paycheck is not direct deposit so it's an issue. We are members and have IRA's with them but for everyday banking it's not realistic.
My bad experiences with BofA were well over a decade ago (It was like, um, pre-internet and stuff) , so I'd be willing to give them another chance - especially since I basically already have, I just don't use the account.
I like Chase and have had no problems with them. There online banking is great and I love how part of my paycheck automatically goes in (I have most of my paycheck go in to our credit union).
Ditto. I love their notifications - when money is deposited, when our account is low, possible fraud alerts, etc. Very happy with them.
We have Wells Fargo accounts, and are very happy with them. The online access, mobile applications for transfering funds, availability of ATMs, etc...it's all been great. We've been very happy with them, and my H's experience with them goes back like 3 generations.
One thing I do like about Chase is that they have the application for iPhone (and prob droid, etc) where you can make deposits by photographing checks. That's legit...especially for someone who can't get Direct Deposit!! But, I've also heard of people who hate Chase for whatever reason, so I dunno.
GL!
I had WaMu (before it became Chase) but when DH and I joined our accounts I dropped them and was not sad to leave. They had been a PITA for a while with giving me overdraft fees.....when I had not (like thousands sitting in the account and they would charge me overdraft....usually about 4 times a month) and I would have to call 4 times a month to get them to fix it.
I was livid at the end.
I moved to Wells Fargo with DH (he had been with them since he started banking) and we have no fees or anything...but that is just because our mortgage is with them and we have some other stuff with them which gives us free everything. I have been VERY happy with Wells and at this point cannot ever imagine leaving.

We HATE Chase. Can't say it enough. We have our auto loan with them too and I hate just having to deal with them. We've had issues before with our payments not posting and trying to get a supervisor on the phone is impossible. I've been hung up on so many times.
We recently went to Wells Fargo because of our mortgage and so far they've been great. DH really likes the On Line site for Wells Fargo.
Google Chase... millions of people hate them.
We have Wells and we really love them! Never an issue. In fact we have had a couple things come up - like we went all over the east coast and since we didn't tell them ahead of time they called us to make sure the charges were ours. They also had a company we used (don't know who or what we used them for) say their system was hacked and our cc info could have been found. So, wells suspended our account, fed ex'd new cc's overnight for free to protect us (and them of course). We also love the convinience in all safeways.
