Baby Names

Honest feedback wanted...

I like Andrew Paul - and plan on calling him Drew not Andrew.

My husband likes it but then half jokingly said Drew Paul- like RuPaul?  and now I'm worried that is what everyone will think of when they see his name.  Is that a dealbreaker?   (Paul is a family name)

Otherwise I'm open to:  Andrew Jacob (call him AJ or Drew)  or  Connor Paul or Carson Paul.

 What do you like best?

Re: Honest feedback wanted...

  • Since Paul is a family name I would use it and honestly No, I would not have thought of RuPaul and I would say it is a slim chance many people would. Plus how often are you going to be saying Drew Paul? Generally you don't use a middle name in everyday conversation.

  • I love the name Andrew (seriously, one of my favorites), but if you are only going to call him Drew and his mn will be Paul, I'm not sure I love it. It probably wouldn't be a big issue though since the middle name isn't used all that often.

I also love Andrew Jacob (not AJ), Connor Paul and Carson Paul! They were all on my list!

  • I love Andrew Paul.  And my mind would have NEVER gone to RuPaul.  Anyway, no one his age will have any idea who that is by the time they're old enough to care!
  • RuPaul didn't even cross my mind until you said it.  But I'm personally not a fan of the nn Drew, I prefer AJ.

  • Before I read the 2nd part of you bringing up RuPaul, I did think of RuPaul when I read about the nn Drew and put it together with Paul. (sorry!)

However that said, I don't think many people would do that.

I do like AJ though... but that's because AJ from Backstreet Boys was my fav! LOL

Maybe I'm stuck in the pop culture of the 1990's too much!

  • I don't think you will have a problem because if you are using his middle name, you would use his full first name. Think of a wedding invitation or diploma- they would use Andrew, not Drew.

Personally, I don't love the nickname Drew, but thats not what you asked :) go with what you like!

This.  I hardly use people's first and middle names together, and I can say I've NEVER used a NN and a MN together.  That's just not the norm.

  • Andrew Paul is a great name. I never would have gotten the RuPaul connection.

  • As the previous posters have said, there will never be a single situation in which you use his nickname and middle name together. Even with the whole "Andrew Paul, you come over here this instant!" kind of thing, you are going to use his full name.

Also, i LOVE the nickname Drew. Much better than Andy or (ick) Randy.

    Great name!

I 3rd all of this!  If you love it and you keep going back to the name, I say go for it!

  • When using his middle name you would most likey say his full first name. So I don't think you would have to worry about it. KWIM? I also like Carson Paul (because Carson is my top pick and Paul was my dads name).  But I think you fine with Andrew and I don't think it would be a issue.
  • Love Andrew Paul...hate Drew
  • I would have NEVER come to the Ru Paul conclusion. I think you're fine. And I really love the Andrew Paul combo! :)

  • Ditto PP's.  He won't ever be "DrewPaul."  He'll be  Drew, or Andrew Paul for formal things.

And FWIW, RuPaul rocks.  (Ok, maybe you don't want your son to be a drag queen, but RuPaul is the awesomist!)

  • I dont think it will be an issue unless you honestly are going to call him Drew Paul. Plus, he might not even LIKE being called Drew anyways once he's a little older. Then it could be a total non-issue.
