Using cold breast milk

I EP, and when I pump, I normally leave it out for 4 hours (until my next pumping) and put away anything she didn't drink. If I take that milk out of the fridge, is it good for another 4-6 hours at room temp, or is it only good for 2 hours since it was out for 4 hours before?

Also, has anyone had luck having their baby take cold breastmilk? My LC said that there is no reason to heat it up other than baby preference. Mine seems to prefer room temp, but if she would drink it cold too that would save me a lot of time in bottle prep Smile

Re: Using cold breast milk

  • Not sure about your first question.  I would check Kellymom.com if you haven't.  As for serving  cold milk, like LC said, there is no reason to heat it up.  So if LO takes it cold lucky you!

  • once it's refrigerated it has to be kept cold. I also EP and my lo has no temp preference, thank goodness :-)

  • Not sure about the first question.  As for cold breastmilk, DH takes DS2's nightly bottle right out of the fridge and feeds it to him.  DS2 has no problem with it - try it and see if your LO will tolerate it.
