My baby had been doing pretty well falling asleep at night and would then consistently sleep 5 hours wake up and eat, then go back to sleep for another 3-4 hours. I few days ago at 5 1/2 weeks we started having major problems with bedtime again. He won't go to sleep and when he does, he's only sleeping about 4 hours, waking up and then falling asleep again for 1 1/2-2 hours. However, he will sleep like he's dead to the world during the day and nothing will keep him awake. He'll finally wake himself up to eat. The amount of time he's sleeping during the day isn't long enough at any one time for me to get a good nap in. Sometimes when he won't fall asleep at night he's cranky, fussy, and cries but other times he's just awake smiling, laughing, and alert looking at his surroundings. Some of the things we've tried to get him to sleep are rocking him (which works as long as we continue to rock him and don't try to put him in bed), putting him in bed and letting him cry it out, letting him cry for a bit and then giving him a pacifier (he won't take the pacifier initially but after crying for a bit he wants it and this used to work but now he just spits it out and starts crying again), playing classical music, getting in a REALLY good feeding, and holding him until he falls asleep. All these things worked before and are no good now. I just don't know what to do and my husband and I are getting completely exhausted all over again!
