we're planning on using a desk as a changing table, and I was planning on putting the Summer Infant Contour Changing Pad on top. Do I need to also use a changing table top, or is the pad enough?
We just have the pad on top of the desk. Definitely attach the pad to the back of the desk with the screw that comes with the changing pad that way it's more secure.

won't that be awfully low and hurt your back to bend over?
I was thinking this too? But as for your question, we just used a changing pad on top of our dresser. I cut a little piece of foam shelf liner to put under it to keep it from sliding. Worked great.
We did this and just attached the pad to the back of the desk with the screws that came with it. Works great - it's a nice large surface big enough for the changing pad and basket of diapers/wipes/rash cream/etc. next to it. I also use the drawers and cabinets under the desk to store extra supplies. It's not too low for us, but we're not super tall people - I'm 5'4" and DH is 5'8".

Ditto the height - and this was also how we did it on top of the dresser, with some of the non-skid shelf liner. Since LO should never be alone on top anyway I didn't see the need for the screw.

I also wonder about this. Our changing area is higher than most...and I think it will come in handy (once LO decides to show up!).
You don't need to add a top to it, and you might not need to add anything else - unless you intend to walk away with your child up there. Our changing pad won't slide and we didn't screw it down.

thanks all! i'm not so worried about the height-i'm barely 5'4"
I have DS's on top of a desk (under a hutch actually). It is fine. I am 5'2'' so it is the perfect height for me. I don't have the pad attached either, and DS is VERY active... I just do the change as quickly as I can and always have one hand on him so I haven't had an issue.

There is a pic of it in my bio, under nursery.
