I had some Blood Work done at 4 weeks and my hcg was doubling beautifully 200 and 400 two days later. I then had some bleeding at 6.5 weeks and my hcg was only 8,000 (very low - did not double like it should have based on 4 week numbers). They did an ultrasound at 7 weeks and we saw our little peanut and heartbeat. They still can't explain my levels, and after going online I read about vanishing twin. I can't help but wonder if this is what happened to me. What are your thoughts??
Re: Vanishing Twin?
Betas actually stop doubling in the 6 week range. They still rise, but they don't do the doubling. Mine was 10,069 at 5w5d and 30,5?? (in siggy) at 6w5d. Yours seems like it was a little low though.
I'm not sure about the vanishing twin. I'm glad your LO is doing great even though they thought your beta was low.
i had a vanishing twin when i was pg with my son. my thoughts on what happened? #s stop doubling at a certain point. and you have no proof that you had a vanishing twin so i wouldn't bother looking for answers and just have peace in having your healthy child, growing properly.
i don't mean this in a blunt/snarky/mean way at all - i hope it doesn't come across that way. its sad to consider losing a baby - even if its a baby you never knew you had until after the fact. no sense in going looking for heartache that may or may not be there, kwim?

it was actually my 3rd pg, but my 1st successful one. and oddly enough, like you, i was told that i would m/c my son as well - low hcg #s - then an u/s actually showed twins. from the start we knew it wasn't likely that the twin would survive though because it was about a week behind in development already.
best of luck to you! pregnancy and parenthood is a miraculous thing...and worth every heartache i've suffered.

I had a vanishing twin. They found a sac that had not developed by 6-7 weeks.
I kinda doubt you had a vanishing twin. There's normally some evidence left behind.
