High-Risk Pregnancy

Placenta Previa

Has anyone been diagnosed (sp?) during their first Trimester?  My RE just caught it during my last ultrasound and made it seem like it was too early to tell if it would be a problem down the road??  Tongue Tied

Re: Placenta Previa

  • i have it right now as well.  Many people have it early and the placenta moves as you get further along.  I think it becomes a problem if you still have it at your anatomy ultrasound.  My dad is a radiologist and told me the same thing today.  My placenta was very low with my daughter and it moved up by the anatomy ultrasound and I am in the same position now.

  • Same here MonaLS....Good Luck
  • I was diagnosed at my anatomy scan with complete placenta previa, so there's not much hope for mine moving up :(  From what I hear, if you have partial placenta previa, the chances are super high that it will move up and never impose any problems in your pregnancy.

  • I was. They discovered total previa at my NT scan and then did another ultrasound a few days later due to some bleeding I was having and said that it looked like it moved up a cm. They did say that 40% of pregnancies start out as previa, but most correct before delivery. Their concern with me was that it seemed to be causing intermittant bleeding.
  • I had partial placenta previa for almost the WHOLE pregnancy.  We were on 'pelvic rest' since week ten  (after bleeding) and just last week (week 36) they said that the placenta moved enough to have cleared the cervix!  So there is hope...hang in there!!!
  • At 14w the doctor said I had partial previa, but plenty of time for it to move.  He is however sending me to a MFM specialist for my anatomy u/s.  I'm not sure how much the pp factors into that because I have other issues/history as well.
  • HI, yes at 18 weeks I started bleeding heavily and they wanted to do a blood transfusion in the ER to stop the bleeding.  They diagnosed me with placenta previa and a small abruption.  I have been on bed rest ever since and am now 30 weeks.  I would watch it carefully and don't over do anything because you do not want to start bleeding badly and jepordize your pregnancy.  My placenta has just now moved to be low lying and your's probably will too.  Due to my issues, I have been and out of the hospital ever since 18 weeks with preterm labor issues.  I am on daily meds to stop my labor.  Take it easy is the best advice I can give you to help your pregnancy along.  Best wishes
  • I'm wondering about this as well! I was just diagnosed at my 20week with complete previa, it's being checked again at 28weeks to see if it moves up at all. Other than that, my ob said I could keep dancing and having sex - unless something changes. I've had no symptoms. Still surprised I wasn't put on pelvic rest? But I suppose if it hasn't hurt up to this point, she isn't overly worried about my cervix getting bumped? I dunno...very mixed emotions at this point! Tongue Tied
