Minnesota Babies

Shame on you MN Zoo

I took the boys today, and needed to nurse Luke.  I went to the restroom that had previously had chairs in it for nursing (by the entrance to the MN trail) only to find out they are doing construction and no longer have the chairs/space.  I asked if they had anywhere else for me to go, and they apparently dont have anywhere else with a dedicated area.  I ended up turning a rocking chair around in the big room before the entrance to the MN trail and nursing him there.  Not really a big deal, but if I wasnt ok with NIP it would have been.  I purposly didnt bring a bottle of EBM with knowing that I would be able to nurse him in the spot I previously had.

I really dont think it is ok for them to take away the one spot that was dedicated to nursing in the whole zoo, and not replace it with another.

  • Oh that's not good. I know there is a chair in the bathroom that is connected to the kids den (or at lest it was there last time I was there).

  • Yeah, I've had friends use the kids den bathroom with the chair in it before.  But the MN trail bathroom was much better.

  • Sorry you had a hard time finding a place to nurse!

Now, I am one of the most pro-nursing people you will find, but IMHO, if a mom is not comfortable NIP, then she needs to bring a bottle of EBM, or go to her car to nurse.

It is my job to feed my baby, and my job to make sure I have the tools to do that.  It isn't anyone else's job to make sure I have what I need in order to feed my child (in this case, a private space).

Now, if they had asked you to get up from a chair or bench that you happened to have plopped yourself in to nurse (and tried to usher you to a more private space), I would be upset right along with you...

But, construction is construction, it isn't like there aren't plenty of other places to nurse at the zoo...

The reason I didnt bring a bottle of EBM is because I had used this room before and didnt have any reason to think that I wouldnt be able to use it again.

I asked about this, and they said that they thought that bathroom only had a stool in it now.  It still would have worked, but I think they should have replaced what they removed elsewhere in the zoo.

  • I used to work there in guest services. Did you make a comment or suggestion to them about it? They actually do read the comment cards as well.

  • NOO! There is an AWESOME place to nurse up by the monorail. I too was there about a month ago and asked since the nursing room wasn't there, and they directed me to the upstairs private bathrooms by the monorail. There were two private bathrooms, and each had a chair in them. It was actually BETTER than the nursing room that was at the MN trail, a perfect place to nurse my distractable baby!. Just wanted to give a headsup in case anyone else is going there soon - just go upstairs to the monorail area, honest!!!!

I thought there HAD to be somewhere else.  Apparently they need to inform all the staff!  Thanks!!

I was so lucky that the girl who was at guest services sent me there, as I am not a NIP gal! I wish I could be, but I am not!
