Sleeping in a recliner?

Did you?  Are you?

My nurse suggested it at my last appointment and I blew her off bc I was sleeping fine.  Now I am NOT.  I am having major pain in my hips and ribs and am very uncomfortable.  I have tried propping myself up with pillows in front and behind and it doesn't work for long.

Thanks!

Re: Sleeping in a recliner?

  • It might work for you or it might not. By 26 weeks I couldn't even lay in a recliner, much less sleep in one. The belly weight was too much. But that's just me. I prefer couches b/c it's easier to lay on my side. That's the only position for me that eases the rib pain (although it does nothing for the other pains!)
  • I'm still sleeping in my bed with my Snoogle. However, I don't have too much in the way of hip pain or heartburn. Lying down in bed is probably the most comfortable spot for me lately. For whatever reason, being in our recliner is the most uncomfortable for me right now! Good luck finding a comfy spot, I hear it only gets worse!

I can't believe how bad the rib pain is right now...OUCH!

  • i didn't have a recliner, but i kind of slept sitting up and a little bit on my side, so maybe if you try it, but with a pillow tucked under one hip, it might work?

I'm willing to try anything at this point.  I love my sleep and last night was just miserable.  The pain in my ribs takes my breath away.

  • Yep, I ended up buying an extra recliner just so we could have one in the master bedroom (in addition to the nursery). I slept in it for almost 2 months. Some nights it was great, some nights it wasn't much better than bed. It was nice to be able to go back and forth, though.

ETA: LOL! I just realized I have a picture of the one in the babies' room in my siggy. We got them at JCPenney, I think.

  • I have been so comfortable in the temperpedic.  I wake up with no pain at all.  If I lay anywhere else for an extended period of time I have hip pain.

I have slept on the recliner on my side due to heartburn but now I prop myself up in bed on pillows and it seems to be working.

  • I haven't yet, but I'm considering it in the near future. I can only make it about half the night on my left side before my hip starts killing me. A pillow under my hip helps a little but I still can't get a full night sleep. I will probably try the couch or recliner soon. Hope you find some relief soon.

  • What peakay said, that position helped a bit, with my acid reflux also.  I tried my recliner, but 1 it wasn't very comfy and 2 I needed to be on my left side as much as possible due to high BP.
  • I slept in a recliner for the last 6 weeks of my singleton pg --- i had tons of issues (kidney stones, hip pain, back pain, heartburn, etc)... the recilner was SO much better for me than the bed.  It was in the nursery - so right next to our bedroom... we actually put a monitor on so i could call for DH if i needed him (since moving really hurt me b/c of the kidney stone stents).

if you have one- give it a try!

this is one of the reasons I always tell people to get a rocking recliner instead of a typical nursery glider.
