1st Trimester

Reglan?

I had a complete breakdown today because of my severe morning sickness. I thought I had it bad with my first pregnancy, (lost about 10 lbs the 1st trimester), but somehow this time it's UNBELIEVABLY worse. I can't keep anything down.

Anyway, I had an ultrasound today and baby is looking good, 6 weeks, 6 days, due date of April 8th! But I started crying hearing that I still have 5 weeks left (or more) of this sickness. I drove straight to my midwife and she prescribed me Reglan. Has anybody used it? I am usually not a big "drug" person, but I am SO desparate......

Has it worked for anyone? TIA!

Re: Reglan?

  • It worked great for me, but I had some rare side effects from it so I had to give it up.

  • I was taking phenergan on its own and it wasn't helping, as soon as my OB added the Reglan I started feeling some relief. I hope it helps you

  • I was prescribed it to increase my milk production after DD was born.  It didn't really help me in that respect and it made me really depressed.

This EXACTLY.  It was Wednesday of this week that I started taking it and after the first pill, I felt SO much better.  I felt very tired and a little drugged, but it was so much better than the sick/throwing up/etc.  Then 24 hours after I started taking it, I developed uncontrolable movement of my face, head, and neck (like tics).  Very scary for me.  My dh googled and it said it only happens to like 1 in 500 (so I guess that's not THAT rare), but I was freaked out.   Fortunately, after I stopped taking it and took benadryl it stopped.  I don't mean to scare you, b/c I know it works wonders for some, but that's my story.

  • I have to tell you as an RN...that I don't recommend this drug.  I have seen a co worker go from completely normal to miserable and unable to enjoy her baby.  She took the Reglan for nausea during pregnancy and has had brain surgery for the tics and tremors she was having.   There is a nation wide class action law suit for this drug.  I would try phenergan, tigan suppositories or zofran before this drug!!!!
