The book basically goes over specific issues you might be having and offers potential solutions. For instance, if your baby only sleeps in moving objects (car, strollers, etc.), or if they wake up after 15 minutes. It also suggests you make a sleep log to keep track of when they wake, eat, etc. to establish patterns and see what the issues are.
IMO the book has some good solutions, however none of them worked for me. I think my situation is unique though, in that DD is super hyper and never wants to sleep during the day. Others have had a lot of success with the book.
If you are willing to go at a slow pace, then yes it will work.
The book is a collection of ideas, suggestions, and recommendations that you piece together to create a plan that works for you.
First, you do a 24 hour sleep log. Then you figure out what areas you want to work on (staying asleep longer, getting baby to sleep, etc) and make a plan. Follow the plan for 10 days and then do another 24 hour sleep log to re-assess, make another plan and follow for 10 days, etc etc.
