DS is not quite 6 mos old, but I will be starting to watch a 10 mo old soon. We live in a quad style house, so we have to half sets of stairs. We are looking at gates to install, and really don't know what to go with. We currently have 2 kinds: Safety 1st Perfect Fit Gate (thinking for bottom of stairs) and KidCo Safeway Gate (thinking for tops of stairs).
The Safety 1st one doesn't seem like it will be so secure... but for bottom of stairs that may be okay. The KidCo one is metal and non-pressured, however the parts that screw into the wall are plastic and don't seem so strong. Of course I'm most concerned about the top of stairs gates.
Any recommendations?? It would be nice to have all the same, but we thought going with 2 less expensive ones for the bottoms would be a little bit of cost savings...
Re: Gates!
We use this one at the top of the stairs. It only swings one way which is great, and you can either pressure mount it or secure it to the wall. The parts are strong and sturdy metal. My DS constantly tries to figure out how to get past it, but it is Fort Knox. In fact I need to go buy another one this weekend for our other set of stairs that has a temporary crappy gate that I hate.

ETA: I just read some of the review on the link, and the people who claim it has a bad latch must not have installed it tight enough. I had to tweak the tension on the width of the gate to get the latch secure. So keep that in mind.
