"Eleanor" is not the "correct" spelling. Jane Austen was using "Elinor" as long ago as the early 19th century. Also, it's such an international name that you see all kinds of spellings, such are ones with an E on the end.

This. I like Elinor but I didn't want to use it because it would always end up spelled wrong.

My preferred spelling is Elinor, but I like Eleanor as well.

Elinor...that was the way my grandmother's name was spelled and if this baby is a girl it will be her middle name, spelled like that.
