I don't think DD wants to be a big sister

My first OB appt with this pregnancy was 2 weeks ago. Baby looked good but there was a tennis ball-sized cyst on my right ovary so they wanted me to come back in 2 weeks to check on it. That's the only thing I went in for today - no blood work or anything so I thought it would be quick and I could just bring DD with me.

Turns out I had to meet with the business office people to go over some insurance info and paperwork, then when we were done with all that the U/S room was occupied so we had to wait a while. DD was being very good for the first 45 minutes or so but she was getting bored. Finally we got into the room, doc came in and we started the U/S. Here's what we saw on the screen ...

Aaaaaaaaaw, baby looks good! You can see the heartbeat and the little feet were kicking ... um, what's that box at the bottom?

DD turned off the ultrasound machine! She was standing there playing with the straps on her stroller and when I wasn't looking she reached over and flipped the on/off switch. I was so embarrassed! Luckily my doc just laughed and said "It's ok. I have 3 kids, I understand." She turned the machine back on and finished.

DD is used to being the center of attention (since she's the only one right now) but geez - I didn't know sibling rivalry would start this early! It's like she was saying "Hey Mom! Ignore that little thing on the screen and pay attention to ME!"

I learned my lesson and DD will not be invited back to any appts, no matter how short they are supposed to be. Embarrassed

  • Hysterical! She'll come around though I'd keep her away from any equipment - especially the one administering the epidural meds. Stick out tongue

    H&H 9 months to you!

  • i think she'll come around too.  my dd is a good big sister, of course with the occassional mean streak.  she loves to mommy her little brother and to help me with diapers and stuff like that.  her new thing is to walk around and point out choking hazards for brother.

    have a great pregnancy!
