Suddenly spitting up?

DS has never really spit up - just a little 'dribble' here and there, but nothing serious.  But for the last couple of days he's spitting up after every feeding.  It seriously looks like he's spitting up everything he eats.  I'm sure he isn't, but it's a lot!  He's also wanting to eat way more often, which I attributed to a growth spurt but maybe it's related to the spitting up?  I'm not sure.

Did any of your LOs do this?  Is it normal or maybe a sign of reflux?

Re: Suddenly spitting up?

  • Reese started spitting up out of nowhere, & it seemed like a ton. I have noticed that when my milk comes in forcefully, she pulls off a lot for breaks during a feeding. I know she gets more air during those feedings, so I've started burping her several times (like every 1-2 min) when I notice that happening, & it's seemed to help. I also try to keep her upright for 1/2 hr after she eats. She still spits up, but nothing like before. I would only be concerned about reflux if it seems to bother him, or if it's projectile.

  • Alexa's spit up would come and go. Perfectly normal, just what babies do. I agree with Dani, no need to worry about reflex if its not bothering him or projectile.

  • C never really spit up either until about 4 weeks. The pediatrician said thats normal and they usually start spitting up more around then. Nothing to worry about, but it does look like a ton! And C's comes out his nose some times.
  • I'm glad to see there are others having this problem.  Kalie started doing this yesterday after every feeding and she's not even 2 wks old yet.  I thought maybe my supply was coming out to fast for her.  I've started letting her feed for about 5 minute increments and then I burp her.  I just worry that taking her on and off will confuse her and she won't latch anymore.
  • Q started the same thing this week. I burp her between breasts or if she has a bottle we burp after every ounce. I have had spit up down my cleavage more times than I can count. :) motherhood is so glamourous!

  • Thanks for letting me know it's normal.  Motherhood has made me a paranoid mess!
