? about weight differences in utero

I was just wondering if your babies had a big weight difference the entire time or if the difference didn't start till later on?  As of right now my girls are almost identical in their measurements, just curious if I can still expect a large weight difference to occur from now until I deliver them.

Re: ? about weight differences in utero

  • I am interested to see what people say. I went Monday and both babies were 2.9.

  • Mine were both within 3-4 oz of each other at every us.  They ended up being the same exact weight at birth...Now at 2 months my DS is almost a lb bigger.   But I swear my DD feels like she weighs more!

  • My boys pretty much tracked the same throughout.  They were within a few ounces of each other each appointment.  The only consistent difference was Eli's head circumference (sp?).  It was a good bit bigger than Ben's and still is!
  • Mine were within a few ounces of each other until around 30 weeks, when DD's growth slowed WAY down.  It turned out that the blood flow through her cord was starting to deteriorate.  At repeat ultrasounds, their growth difference kept increasing, but she was still growing (just a very small amount).

When I delivered at 36w6d (due to pre-e and DD's cord flow looking really poor), they were a pound different (4lb15oz and 5lb15oz).

Right now, at 5 months, I would guess that DS is two pounds heavier than DD.

  • My boys did have some bigger differences in later ultrasounds--one time it was almost 20%--but at birth they were only 3 oz and 1/4" apart (and they're fraternal). I think the differences were due more to the "estimate" nature of ultrasounds. As long as the growth discordance isn't more than 20-25% it's OK if they measure differently.
