insomnia

I cannot sleep. I am 13 weeks pregnant.I have a stressful job and a history of anxiety. I have been taking Melatonin as recommended by my doctor but it is not working. I take a nice relaxing warm bath every night with lavendar salts. The melatonin makes me drowsy but that is it! I have been taking it for 2 weeks now. I also walk in the mornings or evenings for at least 30 mintues. Any suggestions?

Re: insomnia

  • Welcome to the cannot sleep club! I have been having sleep issues for the last three years. Melatonin only worked for a while for me. I was told I have delayed sleep syndrome (sp). Sleeping pills don't work, and you cannot take while pregnant. Sometimes walking or working out can make it harder for you to sleep. My doctor said to stop doing anything after 3pm. Do you have any reflux issues?

I find that cold and dark is best for me to try to sleep. But I also when wake up no longer stress about not being able to sleep. I will get up and watch shows I DVR etc. Sometimes I clean. Warm baths can be a nice way to get yourself tired.

I hope you get some sleep soon!

  • There are approved sleeping pills you can take.  I know my doctor said Tylenol PM was OK - obviously - in moderation.

My doctor did not mention Melatonin to me.  Did you doctor say it was OK to take?  I had done some research on it on the internet and none of it said it was Ok.  I guess I should inquire.

  • My ob told me I could take Melatonin. I have a friend whose two year old is on Melatonin.

Tylenol PM I was told I could take, however it didn't work for me. Also I didn't like how it made me feel.
