Flying question, re: checking stroller at gate

Silly question....but we're planning on checking the stroller at the gate when we fly tomorrow.  I read on the airline website that we should put it in a bag.  I'm assuming they don't provide any sort of plastic bag?  Do I really need one?

Thanks!

  • since you are checking at the gate, you should be fine.  i don't put one in a bag, no.  i take it all the way to the plane and they take it from me there. be sure you get the tag before you board though.  also, they will more than likely make you collapse it to go through security.

  • I've never put my stroller in a bag for checking it.  A car seat, yes, but not a stroller.  As long as it securely latches closed, it should be fine without one.
  • I flew about a week ago and we did this.  We did not use a bag and, as far as I know, the airline did not provide one.  To tell you the truth, I never even thought about it and it never crossed my mind that I would need one.

Perfect, thank you!!  Too much to think about when traveling with a baby.  :)

  • I would only recommend not flying with a 'good' stroller if you're planning to gate check.

We always take the one we don't care too much about vs. our Bob because a friend had issues with her Bugaboo.  It got soaking wet underneath the plane and something on it broke.  I would never fly with a $700 stroller but that's me ;-)

  • Just a suggestion...  if there are any removable items, make sure to take them off!!  I lost a cup holder on our snap n go a few months back.  We never used a bag, and all the other times I remembered to take them off.  The stroller and car seat did have to go thru the x-ray machine as well - kind of a pain.
  • I just recently flew and used one of those umbrella strollers but didn't put it in a bag.  It was fine!  I know that some friends of mine who checked strollers or car seats to go in the plane put them in some sort of bag because I guess they go in different parts...I don't know.  Ha.

  • We didn't need a bag BUT we saw a lady at baggage claim who had just flown in the rain and since her stroller was brought up from below the plane to the gate, it was soaked. So I'd check the forecast just in case. Otherwise, no.
