Natural Birth

WWNBD

I am going to school with the hopes of becoming a CNM in NC. I was talking to a friend this weekend and she told me her MW (graduated from the same program I hope to be in within the next few years) said homebirth is illegal in NC.

I know for a fact a CNM can attend homebirths legally in NC.

I saw this MW for well-woman visits for a long time but not anymore due to differences of opinion.

Would you tell the MW she is misinforming her patients even though she is 1 of only 2 MW's in the county and neither perform homebirth or just let it go since it is not an option in this county?

Re: WWNBD

  • Maybe that MW is confusing CPM and CNM? Since CPMs aren't legal in NC to attend homebirths, but CNMs are- the difference is that CNM have that nursing background and are licensed nurses with midwifery as added schooling.

  • I'd tell her she's misinforming and send her a copy of the law. Smile  Just for the sake of being technical.

This...she should know even if she isn't planning to perform homebirths herself.

  • She is very anti-homebirth so I can understand why, since she knows no one in the area performs them, she would say they are illegal.

I was looking for a FB page I could suggest to her that would have this information. Anyone know of any?
