?'s on registering or pre-registering at the hospital

Okay I already pre-registered at the hospital that I was gunna have my baby at, but I've heard bad reports plus being there twice once when they need to check the baby after I fell on my belly once, and the other was awhile ago I had an early u/s cause I wasn't able to keep anything down and felt horriable (dumb morning sickness) Anyways we no longer are going to have our baby there, and are planning on going somewhere else do I need to tell my doctor that and I'm assuming I will have to register at the other hospital correct?

Re: ?'s on registering or pre-registering at the hospital

  • I am not sure how it works where you are, but Dr's do not always have privileges at other hospitals. So definitely check with them first, but you would also want to pre register at the new hospital, if only because it is not the thing you want to do when you are in labor!
  • Yes, you will need to tell your doctor and make sure he/she delivers at the new hospital of choice, and you will need to re-register at the new hospital as well.

  • As long as the hospital is one that your doctor delivers at you can just let him/her know that you would like to deliver at the other hospital. It shouldn't be a problem. Lot's of times they can give you the pre-register form at your next appointment. I actually just did this with my scheduled c-section. I was originally going to deliver at one hospital, but hated my experience there when I had knee surgery, plus it was farther from my home. I just told my OB that I wanted to do the c-section at the hospital closer to my house, and he handed me a new pre-register form and they called the next day with the "new" delivery date. Hope that helps. Good luck : )

  • the thing is I really dnt have a doctor usally I just see who ever...but lately I have been seeing this one lady more than once. But with my husbands insurance I think I might be able to go almost any where so does it really matter if MY doc delivers there (cause my doc won't even be delivery unless they were on call anyways)
  • But you have a doctor PRACTICE you go to, correct? You don't just wander the countryside, heading into OB offices at will. So, yes, you DO have a doctor (a practice), and you need to make sure that they deliver at the hospital you want to switch to. When people talk about "your" doctor they know that you have different doctors you see over hte course of your pregnancy and you're delivered by whatever member of the practice happens ot be on call. That is standard OP.

I am delivering at a hospital nearly a half hour from my home because my doctor's office doesn't deliver at the hospital near my house.

And yes, you need to pre-register at the NEW hospital as well (pre-registrations don't "transfer" - -they are facility-specific), AND you need to make sure this is all resolved with your insurance, as one side-effect of registering at the old hospital might be that your insurance limits your OB needs to that hospital. Because the hospital I'm delivering at is so far from my house, we had to talk to my insurance and explain to them that all my OB needs would be met at THAT hospital, even though ther was one I was "zoned for" closer to me.
