SSI payment?

My son was 3 weeks early and was born with bladder exstrophy (bladder on the outside of his body) and spent 6.5 weeks in the NICU.  I applied for for SSI for him once he came home and was denied due to our income even though Social Services determined him disabled for his condition.  I recently heard that any baby who spends 30 days or more in the hospital would qualify for a SSI payment.  Could anyone offer any more information on this for me? Thank you!

You would have only receved it while your child was in the hospital. I am also, pretty sure that you would have had to apply for it while he was there as well. You probably only would have qualified for about $30 while he was hospitalized though. As soon as he leaves the hospital, you can only receive it if you qualify for it finacially. I hope this helps! We qualified I believe for birth weight while in the hospital.  We applied right after she was born.  completed some paperwork right away and then more once she came home (she was in the nicu almost 11 weeks).  We qualified only for when she was in the hospital and recieved about $800 dollars.
