MFM Drs - Magee vs. West Penn

Hello.

I had a m/c at 18 weeks 2 years ago, and my H and I met with the MFM dr at Magee, but have heard really good things about West Penn, so we thought we'd get a second opinion from them, since I'll be a high risk patient next time we get pregnant.  Any experiences with drs from either hospital?

Re: MFM Drs - Magee vs. West Penn

  • I delivered at West Penn in 2008 and had a great experience.  Everyone...and I mean everyone was so nice...especially considering I was discharged on Christmas Day...I didn't think people would be happy to be at work but they were wonderful!  They have a great NICU as well.  My doctors and nurses were very attentive and supportive.  I've heard great things about Maggee too though...but no personal experience there.  Good luck!

  • I just recently (8/25/10) delivered at West Penn.  I had a great experience.  The staff there were all amazing.  In fact, my nurse during delivery was incredibly awesome.  I pushed for less than 30 mins, but I owe a lot of that to her.  She was helping me & really telling me how to push to get my son out quickly.

Some of the cons to West Penn is that video/cameras are not allowed until after the baby is cleaned off & healthy.  I wanted a pic of my boyfriend cutting the cord, but it wasn't allowed.

I chose West Penn only because of some friends/family that delivered in other hospitals.  If there was a serious issue with birth, a lot of babies are sent to West Penn.  I thought it would be a good idea just to go there in the first place in case there was an emergency.  They also have a great lactation center/coaches!

     Good luck with everything! :)
