How early will you buy a costume?

I want to take DD to start checking out costumes, especially since the stores can get a little crazy and sold out early.

But then part of me wonders if we buy a costume now, in two months will she still want to be whatever she picked?!

    DD will be Abby Cadabby for Halloween. We already have most of the costume now since she wore it earlier this summer. Shortly before Halloween, I'll tell her she gets to be Abby and that's it. She doesn't get a say in the matter yet! I wonder how many more years I can get away with this approach?!

    That is my fear.  I'm not opposed to buying one as soon as I can, but I am afraid DS will change his mind a thousand times before Halloween!

    I think I might have to check on the return policy before I purchase.  Ha ha!

    I probably won't get DD one until about 2 weeks before Halloween.  I was able to find her one at the last minute last year for a Halloween carnival at school.  It was discounted at Gymboree and really cute.  I have my fingers crossed that we'll have the same luck this year.

    I bought ours last week!  Last year I waited until the week before Halloween.  It was a nightmare on several levels.  They did not end up with what they wanted.  This year they lost their minds when they saw the Optimus Prime and Bumble Bee costumes from Party City.  So I ran right out to buy them.

    I just got ours last week at a consignment sale. I wasn't even looking for one, but it was $4 and in great shape, so I couldn't pass it up. We tried it on this weekend and we had to bribe him to get it off. At least he likes it! Hopefully he can still wear it in a couple of months....

    We order our costumes every year in August from a catalog - usually from SB Kids.

    DS had a pirate birthday party. I'm hoping to use that as his costume.  We go to a few Halloween events so we usually have more than 1 costume. I'm thinking the pirate and something else he will pick out much closer to Halloween like the 1st week or so in October.

    We had a train costume handed down to us by my sil. P is obsessed with trains, and it's a free costume. Win/win!!!
