What's worked for you?

When it comes to ummmm, constipation. Yep, I thought I missed out on this lovely pregnancy side effect but was wrong. I had constipation issues before getting pregnant and took Miralax which helped out big time. However, it looks like Miralax is a Class B drug, so I don't want to go anywhere near it.

What have you ladies done for constipation?

Re: What's worked for you?

  • My doc recommended Milk of Magnesia. If you take it though, stay close to a bathroom (my docs words of wisdom!).

  • My doc says Miralax is ok. Colace-its a softener, not a laxative. Glycerin suppositories may help you go since you are backed up now. The Colace needs to be taken with lots of water.

Oh really? I will call my doctor on Monday. Since Miralax has worked for me in the past, I would like to stick with it. Thanks for letting me know!

  • For now I would drink lots of water and even some gatorade.  In my experience I was dehydrated, so this helped. Also, get some more fiber into your diet.  That should help until, and even when you find something to jumpstart your sytem again!  :)
  • A piping glass of hot cocoa gets me going every time.

  • I've been dealing with the issue as well, my doctor said coalace and fiber.  i found these gum drop fiber supplements i've been taking along with increasing my water and that means to have kept me regular.

  • I take colace... it's been working just fine til I got sick and didn't need it bc my bowels decided to work whenever they wanted :(
  • My OB asks that I try prunes or prune juice first and the colace or metamucil if needed.   Some people also have luck with a few kiwis or even almonds.

  • I like to take metamucil...sadly I actually think it tastes pretty good. Must be a weirdo pregnant thing.

  • Honestly, I've been doing pretty well by eating good old prunes and drinking lots of water.  My doc told me to bring Colace on this business trip coming up since I won't eating my usual healthy food.  I'm still bringing a big bag of individually wrapped prunes hoping I won't need the meds, though.
