Baby Names

Margaret Kaylin?

While I'm not pregnant yet, my husband and I will be TTC in the next year to year and a half. If we have a girl, I would like to name her Margaret after my great aunt (I am very close to her). Unfortunately, my cousin (on the opposite side of the family and in no way related to my Great Aunt Margaret) had a baby a few years ago and named her Margaret. We spend a fair amount of time with this cousin and her family, so I'm worried about confusion and / or name "stealing".  Two little Maggies at family functions might be a little much.

As far as middle names, the women on my husband's side all have the middle name "Kay", which I am kind of bored with. Instead I would like to snazz it up just a bit and instead use "Kaylin" as the middle name, keeping the original "Kay" spelling intact but adding an additional syllable.

 Any opinion? ideas?

Thank you! :)

Re: Margaret Kaylin?

  • I don't think there's any problem with you using Margaret to honor your aunt. I might consider a different nickname, though, if your cousin's daughter already goes by Maggie. There are lots of nicknames for Margaret ? Meg, Maisie, Daisy, Madge, Greta, Peg, Peggy, Margie, Margo, etc.

I don't like Kaylin, especially with Margaret. It sounds too trendy with a classic first name.

I agree completely with this whole response : ).  I like Meg as a nn for Margaret!  And, I would use Kay or Kate but not Kaylin.  Just doesn't fit with Margaret, IMO.

Agree! Margaret Kay or Margaret Kate sounds beautiful! Don't like Kaylin at all.

  • Two Margarets wouldn't phase me. If you wanted to go the extra mile you could ask your cousin her thoughts once your are actually PG with a girl. Kaylin sounds made up. There are several other Kay... names out there, though

  • i would choose a different yet similar name.  what about megan, meredith, margo, melanie, or melissa?

also, i don't like kaylin.  what about katherine, kathleen, kaylene or kay (i don't think it's boring).
